New brain-painting technology aims to help people with ADHD

A team at the College of South Florida produced a mind laptop or computer interface that allows people to build artwork with their minds.

TAMPA, Fla. — Harnessing the electric power of human concentration is no quick endeavor, but College of South Florida personal computer scientist Dr. Marvin Andujar is performing to do just that.

“Applications like this could support us all not just people with ADHD turn into extra disciplined with our focus,” Andujar reported.

Following a two-calendar year pilot analyze, Andujar and his staff developed a brain personal computer interface (BCI) that allows men and women to make art with their minds.

“We constructed a prototype exactly where consumers can create their very own abstract paintings with their brains, but also at the very same time be within their very own painting,” he described.

People use BCI and interact with the screen applying blinking controls to paint on a digital canvas. Andujar is hoping the new technological innovation can support men and women from all walks of daily life, especially those people who have ADHD.

“You could take an hour the very first time, the 2nd time, the 3rd time,” he claimed. “If you appear back the 10th time will it take you 45 minutes? We want to see that progress.”

The objective is to ultimately make it possible for mind painters to monetize their get the job done in the electronic art world by establishing them as NFTs, or non-fungible tokens.

“There’s nothing out there that exists that is a mind-primarily based painting which is an NFT,”  Andujar states.

The personal computer scientist is aiming at a new era of therapy, harnessing the electrical power of the head.

“Can we increase their attention and retention in excess of time, and while accomplishing that, can we also increase their mental health and fitness by bettering their psychological point out?” Andujar puzzled. “Which is why people acquire art for their property simply because it elicits a beneficial emotion.”
