AI Upscale Color Remaster Hollywood Sunset Strip 1952
Back in 1952, a videographer was tasked with shooting a scene from the rear of a moving camera car. More specifically, a 10:52 long ride that follows Sunset Boulevard from Hollywood all the way to the mid-Sunset Strip, originally shot for Sandler Film Library. It was scanned in 5K ProRes422HQ, but it wasn’t until NASS got their hands on it did the footage get upscaled and colorized via artificial intelligence-powered neural networks. What kind of enhancements did AI perform? It boosted FPS to 60 frames per second, improved image resolution to HD, increased video sharpness + brightness, colorized purely for ambiance (not historically accurate), and then sound design was added to give it more authenticity. Restoration involved stabilization, denoising ,cleaning, and deblurring the footage.
